What each state gets from Washington to police trucks, what that bought, how many people died in truck crashes there, and who represents it: their committee seats, their votes, and the trucking PAC money they took.
Records show connections, not motives. Money next to a vote or a crash count is a fact on the record. What it means is for the reader to judge.
MCSAP funding and roadside enforcement: FMCSA. Cost per inspection compares fiscal 2025 only, the one year with both full funding and full inspection counts. Truck and bus crashes: crashes reported to FMCSA in the last 24 months, by reporting state (about 8% involve a bus). Fatal truck crashes by year: NHTSA FARS. Committee seats: Congress. PAC money: FEC disbursements from trucking-industry committees, 2020 to 2026. Truck miles: FHWA Highway Statistics 2023, Tables VM-2 and VM-4 (single-unit and combination trucks). Deaths per 100 million truck miles uses FARS deaths in fatal crashes involving a large truck, counted once per crash, buses excluded. Regions: FMCSA field service centers. District figures: truck crashes reported to FMCSA in the last 24 months, placed by county; counties split between districts are divided by population (Census ACS 2024, 119th Congress lines), Connecticut by land area. Crashes with no county on the report can't be placed (New York: 1,255 crashes, 35 deaths).
